This beautifully carved dark green jade is carved on one side with a phoenix and peaches with two phoenix on the top of the piece.  In the center is a circle with Chinese characters in the center.  On the other side is carved two bats facing each other with the Chinese character for double happiness.  The pendant is 2” long by 1” wide and drops 2 1/2” from the necklace beaded with 10 mm and 8 mm green zoisite beads.  The necklace is 24” around and is finished with a 14k gold clasp.

The phoenix, a mythical bird, is the emblem of the Empress and of beauty. It only appears in time of peace and prosperity.   It is believed that a following of smaller birds is always present when the phoenix is flying.  It is symbolic of prosperity, rich harvests, and beauty.   A pair of phoenix is symbolic of happiness.

The bat is symbolic of happiness, good fortune, prosperity and longevity. When something is portrayed upside down it means it has arrived, so the common portrayal of an upside-down bat is symbolic of good fortune that has arrived.  It is one of the best symbols of good luck.   Two bats together means double good fortune.

The peach is also known as the "fairy fruit" and is thought to have originated in China.  It is an emblem of marriage and a symbol of spring, longevity and immortality. The peach tree of the Gods was said to blossom once every 3000 years and the fruit of eternal life took another 3000 years to ripen.

Chinese royalty has worn jade for centuries. It has been used since the Neolithic times for tools, weaponry, amulets, vases and figurines because of its hardness.  It is believed to be a spiritual stone and has been called the jewel of heaven.  It represents the five principal virtues:  charity, modesty, courage, justice and wisdom.  From cloudy white to golden brown, light to dark green, to rare lavender, jade is the most highly prized Asian gemstone.  Jade has been regarded as the most precious stone for thousands of years.  It is believed to protect the wearer and ensure good luck and good health as well as to increase life span.

Green zoisite is a metamorphic rock.  It is often combined with a natural non-transparent ruby crystals call ruby zoisite.
