This is a large piece of blue green jade that has been carved on one side with a dragon and on the other side with a phoenix. The golden color on the edge of the piece is a natural part of the jade and enhances the piece. There is a lot of translucency in the jade. I have beaded it with high quality blue green aquamarine 15 mm beads in the same color as the jade. Some of the aquamarine beads are quite clear , others have more natural inclusions in them - much like the jade. This makes for a unique and interesting necklace.

The jade pendant measures 3 1/4” x 1 3/4”. The necklace is 21” around and is finished with a large 18k gold vermeil clasp. You can wear either side facing forward. This piece makes a beautiful fashion statement.

The dragon is the imperial emblem of the Emperors in China, especially from the from the Han period where their coat of arms shows two dragons fighting for the fiery pearl. Together with the dragon it is symbolic of marriage – the dragon being the man and the phoenix representing the woman.
