This great piece of bi-color green and white jade has been carved on the green area to emphasize the dragon. The jade is carved so there are cut out areas. On the back is a carved lotus. The pendant measures 2 1/2" x 1 1/4". I have paired it with some beautiful white jade beads cut in the shape of a lotus interspersed with some small green aventurine beads to tie the beads with the pendant. The entire necklace is 18" around ans is finished with a 18k gold vermeil clasp. This is a great fashion statement.
The dragon is the imperial emblem of the Emperors from the Han period. The dragon, a supernatural creature, is the symbol of power, strength, wisdom and goodness and represents the utmost in attainment: good luck and success in life. It is also believed to be the guardian of hidden treasures. It represents the spirit of growth and change. The lotus or sea rose, is a symbol of purity, fruitfulness and creativity.
Chinese royalty has worn jade for centuries. It has been used since the Neolithic times for tools, weaponry, amulets, vases and figurines because of its hardness. It is believed to be a spiritual stone and has been called the jewel of heaven. It represents the five principal virtues: charity, modesty, courage, justice and wisdom. From cloudy white to golden brown, light to dark green, to rare lavender, jade is the most highly prized Asian gemstone. Jade has been regarded as the most precious stone for thousands of years. It is believed to protect the wearer and ensure good luck and good health as well as to increase life span.
