This carved green jade is in the shape of a three-legged frog. The natural jade has small areas of brown around the edges. It is carved in great detail even showing his toes, design on his body and eyes. I have topped it with a piece of carved brown serpentine in the symbol of long life. The jade toad measures 2” by 1 1/2”. The jade and serpentine drop 3” from a black natural leather cord that is adjustable in length from 16 1/2” to 33” so it can be worn a variety of lengths.
The three-legged toad is believed to exist only on the moon, which it swallows during the eclipse. With money in his mouth, the three-legged toad is symbolic of good fortune and prosperity.
Chinese royalty has worn jade for centuries. It is believed to be a spiritual stone and has been called the jewel of heaven. It represents the five principal virtues: charity, modesty, courage, justice and wisdom. From cloudy white to golden brown, light to dark green, to rare lavender, jade is the most highly prized Asian gemstone. Jade has been regarded as the most precious stone for thousands of years. It is believed to protect the wearer and ensure good luck and good health as well as to increase life span.
