This necklace is made with natural pink mother of pearl nuggets interspersed with small mother of pearl beads. The mother of pearl has a lot of sheen and really catches the light. Each mother of pearl nugget drops about 1” and is 3/4” wide but all are slightly different as these are nature made. The necklace is 17 1/2” in length. It is finished with a 18k gold vermeil hook clasp. The necklace frames the face beautifully.

Mother of pearl is the iridescent substance that forms the lining of the shells of some fresh-water and some salt-water mollusks. Like the pearl it is a secretion made by the animal's mantle and made up of of alternate layers of calcium carbonate and conchiolin. It is light reacting with this layering which gives mother of pearl its sheen. It signifies faith, charity. The pearl has been known as a stone of sincerity and loyalty.

Among the chief sources or mother of pearl are the pearl oyster, found in warm and tropical seas but the substance can also form in the shells of fresh water mollusks.
