Asian Antiques And Vintage Collectables
Carol Barrett makes stunning one-of-a-kind jewelry using Asian antiques and vintage collectables she finds on her global travels. The pieces she incorporates into her jewelry are unique, beautiful and full of history. But they don’t always inspire a jewelry design.
As a result, Barrett has a select few pieces that aren’t already part of a vision for a beaded necklace, pendant, bracelet or ring. She would be happy to custom design a jewelry piece using one of these Asian collectables or to sell them independently.
The Asian antiques and collectables
The pieces Barrett collects on her travels are not the kinds of things most people can find anywhere else on the Internet. They are authentic mammoth ivory carvings, vintage Asian silver and culturally significant blue, green and gold jade carvings from original artists who are no longer working or, in most cases, living.
They tell stories and have histories. These Asian collectables and antiques are little pieces that Barrett hunts in boutiques, antique shops and bazaars throughout Asia and Indonesia. They’re valuable and sentimental. But there’s also a limited international market for such small pieces that they are extraordinarily difficult to find unless you can travel to Asia.
Finding inspiration for custom jewelry
Barrett usually finds inspiration in the Asian antiques and collectables she buys and uses them to craft phenomenal one-of-a-kind jewelry. The pieces she’s willing to sell separately haven’t been quite as inspirational as others for her. But everyone is inspired in different ways.
If you see a piece in Carol Barrett Jewelry’s collection of Asian antiques and vintage collectables that inspires you, Barrett is always eager to listen to clients and custom design jewelry pieces for them using her collectables, quality semi-precious gemstones and hand-blown glass beads.
Collecting
While Barrett bought these mammoth ivory netsukes, vintage Asian silver and jade carvings to make one-of-a-kind jewelry, she knows that’s not their only possible use. In fact, most of the pieces Barrett finds were never intended to be part of jewelry pieces.
She’s happy to sell the individual collectables and antiques to anyone who wants them.
